FG launches applications for tech startup accelerator programme

The federal government, through the National Information Technology Development Agency, has launched applications for a tech startup accelerator Fellowship programme to encourage Nigerians with creative ideas.

According to the Agency, the Founder Institute in Abuja is collaborating with them to organise the Fellowship programme. The Fellowship, according to NITDA, aims to promote an entrepreneurial culture and accelerate the expansion of innovation-driven enterprises in Nigeria.

30 IT businesses with a focus on AI, Robotics, Cybersecurity, E-commerce, Software, Fintech, Ed-tech, IoT, GovTech, Agritech, and Biotechnology will receive training through the Fellowship.

Other requirements for eligibility were specified by NITDA, including as the need that applicants “must have an innovation/idea tailored to Al, Robotics, Blockchain, E-commerce, Software, Fintech, Ed-tech, loT and Biotechnology, and Cybersecurity.”

Other criteria will be able to commit at least 30 hours per week to this programme and be available full-time.”

According to the information provided by the Agency, the application deadline is October 2, 2023.

The government’s effort to teach a million Nigerians in technical skills by 2025 includes the new NITDA initiative.

Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, who made the announcement recently, said the training’s preparations began in August with a gathering of tech players to co-create creative strategies to fulfil the goal.
