The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission claimed to have created software to improve transparency in the three tiers of government’s sharing and drafting of general revenue policy.
The RMAFC Chairman, Mr Mohammed Shehu, disclosed this in a Sunday interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
“So, we now have software through which the states and LGs will input the required data in the system. They have a passcode. We will collect the data that they sent; analyze it and also send our own team to for verification, and then we will agree on how that horizontal formula will be,” he said
According to him, the software would assist the commission in carrying out one of its primary duties, which is periodically examining the revenue allocation formula for the entire federation.
The Commission claimed that by using the programme, it will stop manually calculating the amount that is given to each state and local government in the federation.
Shehu added that the commission was working to create a data bank so that it could keep an eye on businesses. He asserted that the Commission need to have access to real-time information on what enters each agency’s system.
In order for the commission to successfully secure the best possible distribution of tax income, he requested the assistance of all revenue-generating organisations around the nation.
