Chinese, Nigerian energy firms sign $1bn gas flaring deal

The Nigerian Midstream Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Sahara Energy Group, and the Ministry of Petroleum are planning to work together on gas development in the country.

According to The Times, this is in line with a statement made by Sahara Energy.

According to the statement, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority Chief Executive, Engr. Farouk Ahmed, and the Executive Director of Finance, Abiodun Adeniji, along with a delegation from the Ministry of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, were received by Sahara Energy International Singapore.

Chief Executive Officer of Sahara Energy International Singapore, Yomi Benson, the Country Manager of Sahara Energy International Singapore, Koyejo Bankole, and Head of Trading, Sahara Energy, Jerome Espinasse, welcomed the delegation at Sahara Energy’s offices at the Millenia Towers in Singapore’s Temasek Avenue business district.

They discussed infrastructure, international trade, gas production investment potential, and investments in Nigeria as well as the potential for investing in gas development, how gas is essential for assuring access to energy, a just energy transition, and supplying companies with the fuel they need to thrive and produce.

The lively discussions also included green bonds and green financing for the construction of gas infrastructure in Nigeria and throughout Africa, and the role that international financial institutions would need to play.

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo, expressed his satisfaction with Sahara Group’s outstanding performance in Asia over the past 14 years.

Sahara Group is a multinational energy company with roots in Nigeria. He urged cooperation in carrying out President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s plan for the development of gas in Nigeria.

He added that expanding the gas infrastructure in places with direct access to crucial industrial processing zones, power plants, and significant industrial sectors will hasten Nigeria’s search for energy efficiency, boost the country’s economy, and ensure the country’s energy sustainability.

He stated, “Sahara Group is committed to working with local, regional, and international stakeholders to promote sustainability and energy availability in Africa.”
