Financial stakeholders demand improvement of African economy

African economic growth slumps to 3.2% in 2023

Financial sector stakeholders have stated that cooperation amongst all sectors is necessary to enable faster economic growth in Africa.

The Punch reported that according to a statement, they spoke during a two-day Africa Social Impact Summit in Lagos, Nigeria, which was jointly organized by the Sterling One Foundation and the United Nations, Nigeria, and attended by prominent members of the government, diplomatic community, civil society, and the public and private sectors.

The second edition of the Africa Social Impact Summit, with the theme “Global vision, local action: Repositioning the African development ecosystem for sustainable outcomes,” aimed to foster partnerships and encourage financial infusions that would ensure that Africa made rapid progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

In her opening remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of Sterling One Foundation, Mrs. Olapeju Ibekwe, expressed hope that the summit will result in a number of collaborations and innovations.

In order to accomplish more and spread their effect from community to community across the continent, she said she was looking forward to existing social impact initiatives in various rural areas accessing multilayer resources.

She said, “The people are waiting for action across the continent. Africa is longing for action since it has been labeled as the “emerging continent” for far too long and its potential has frequently come up in conversation.

However, poverty, hunger, the climate crisis, and inequality still exist. I’m still convinced and eternally hopeful that we can take the kind of action we want to because there is capacity to build strong partnerships for sustainable solutions.

The Sterling One Foundation’s board member and managing director, Mr. Abubakar Suleiman, said in his opening remarks: “Six months from now, when we reach out to you, we want to hear that because you came here, you met someone, and you established a relationship, you rethought your approach.

“As a result, you are making greater use of your resources and are better at working together to solve challenges.”
