Toyota has reported that a technical malfunction has forced it to halt production at all of its 14 Japanese factories.
The world’s largest automaker provided no additional information about the halt, which began Tuesday morning, but stated that it did not appear to be the result of a cyber attack.
Tuesday morning, twelve factories or twenty-five production lines were shut down due to a glitch in the company’s system that prohibited the processing of orders for parts.
Later, the company decided to suspend all of Toyota’s domestic factories, or 28 production lines, by halting the afternoon shift of the remaining two factories.
“We do not believe the problem was caused by a cyberattack,” the company said in a statement to AFP.
“We will continue to investigate the cause and to restore the system as soon as possible.”
