Google Chrome is developing a feature that will allow users to shift the address bar to the bottom of the display on iOS.
Apple is testing the feature with iOS 15, nearly two years after moving the tab bar for Safari to the bottom.
According to iOS developer Steve Moser, who made the initial observation, Chrome’s modification is currently being tested in the Testlfight version of the game.
Users of Chrome’s test version can choose a different address bar style by going to Settings > Address Bar.
Through Settings > Safari > Tabs, users of Safari can also modify the tab position; however, the address bar’s current position at the bottom has remained the default for the past two years.
Although Chrome’s update hasn’t reached all users yet, having a consistent design will be helpful for those who use both browsers occasionally. On large-screen devices, it is also simpler to use one hand to reach the address bars that are located at the bottom.
In 2020, Google launched a comparable trial for Chrome on Android, but it was ultimately terminated.
