The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria, CIPSMN, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the requirements of the Public Procurement Act 14 of 2007 are fully implemented in order to prevent procurement-related corruption in public offices.
Vanguard reported that the Institute demanded, among other things, that qualified procurement professionals be permitted to exercise their professions in accordance with the CIPSMN Act 21 of 2007.
The CIPSMN’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Mohammed Aliyu, said during a news conference in Lagos: “We kindly invite His Excellency Mr. President to grant the following prayers: Because laws are designed to be implemented, not broken or chosen, your administration should guarantee that the Public Procurement Act 14 of 2007’s provisions are fully carried out.
“That Certified Procurement Professionals should be permitted to practice their profession in accordance with the CIPSMN Establishment Act 21 of 2007 as it will significantly lower the high incidence of procurement-related corruption currently recorded across ministries, departments, and agencies due, in large part, to the overbearing attitude of the Bureau of Public Procurement demonstrated through subpar training it conducted.”
He added: “Ensure the full implementation of the Presidential Executive Order 05 on planning and execution of projects, promotion of Nigerian content in contracts, and science, engineering, and technology innovation” that has already been published in the Federal government’s gazette.
The Public Procurement Act 14 of 2007’s requirements should be fully implemented, according to a request made to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria, in order to decrease corruption in public procurement.
The Institute demanded, among other things, that qualified procurement professionals be permitted to exercise their professions in accordance with the CIPSMN Act 21 of 2007.
