Head of Huawei Technologies’ consumer business, Richard Yu, has expressed confidence in the resurgence of the company’s handset business during its annual developer conference in Dongguan.
Yu revealed that Huawei’s share of the domestic smartphone market grew by an impressive 76.1 percent in the second quarter, positioning it as a strong contender in the high-end sector.
The company secured the second spot in the high-end sector, indicating its remarkable market share growth.
According to Counterpoint Research, Huawei’s overall market share reached 11.3 percent in the second quarter, solidifying its position among the top competitors, trailing only behind Vivo and Apple.
Huawei’s resilience was underscored by its ability to overcome challenges.
Despite facing several rounds of US restrictions on technology access, the company successfully resolved supply shortages, allowing it to resume normal product launches.
This achievement propelled Huawei’s growth after being limited to producing last-generation 4G handsets.
Yu highlighted another victory for the company – its in-house Harmony operating system.
Over the span of four years, the operating system garnered a substantial developer community of 2.2 million.
The future holds promise for Huawei as well. Research firms predict that Huawei will resume 5G smartphone production by the year’s end, defying the challenges imposed by US restrictions.
By exploring domestic chip procurement, Huawei aims to regain its standing in the 5G market segment.
