The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps, has insisted on a complete crackdown on the selling of alcohol as well as street dealing and hawking along roadsides, medians, major highways, parks, and parking lots.
The Corps Marshal of LAGESC, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (rtd), recently made this disclosure in a statement.
She also said that street trading on roadsides, pedestrian bridges, setbacks, medians, and hawking on major highways constitutes a violation of the State environmental laws.
Akinpelu added that the agency has made many arrests and has been successful in getting individuals arraigned and sentenced by the courts. She also noted that the continued enforcement against people selling alcohol in the State’s parking lots and parks has been successful.
The Lagos State Government has always opposed the sale and use of alcoholic beverages by drivers in parks, garages, and along roadsides.
The Corps Marshal issued instructions to the Agency’s Special Squad to step up the enforcement drive by apprehending defaulters for arraignment on a daily basis and placing their seized goods in the Agency’s storage facility.
She further disclosed that the State Environmental Regulations mandate the daily distribution of seized perishable commodities to orphanage homes and the storage of non-perishables until a court judgment is issued.
Akinpelu also emphasized the ongoing requirement for people to cross important State highways using strategically placed pedestrian bridges in order to avoid being run over by sped-up drivers.
