Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino defended the temporary limit on the number of tweets users can read per day on Tuesday in a tweet.

The company also reported that advertising has remained consistent in the days following the move garnered harsh criticism from users and marketing experts.

In her tweet, Yaccarino stated that “when you have a mission like Twitter — you need to make big moves to keep strengthening the platform.” It was her first statement to the public regarding the restrictions owner Elon Musk announced on Saturday. He said that the measure was taken to deter “extreme levels” of data scraping.

In the days following Musk’s directive, Twitter users shared screenshots demonstrating how they had reached their limit and were no longer allowed to view any tweets, including those on the accounts of corporate sponsors. Additionally, marketing experts warned that it would hurt Yaccarino’s efforts to draw in sponsors.

Only a small portion of platform users, according to Twitter, have been impacted by the limits.

“To ensure the authenticity of our user br we must take extreme measures to remove spam and bots from our platform,” Twitter said in a blog post.

Soon after Twitter started asking users to authenticate into an account in order to access tweets, the limit went into effect.
