The president of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero has described as insensitive the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu.
“By his insensitive decision, President Tinubu on his inauguration day brought tears and sorrow to millions of Nigerians instead of hope. He equally devalued the quality of their lives by over 300 percent and counting,” he said in a statement.
The NLC President asked President Tinubu to reflect and understand why other presidents didn’t effectively remove fuel subsidy. He stated that the removal won’t get him accolades from Nigerians, but condemnation.
President Bola Tinubu had on the day of his inauguration declared that subsidy removal is gone. The declaration by him sparked panic buying from Nigerians and this led to a hike in the prices of petrol in the country, with many petrol stations across the country selling the commodity as high as N700 per litre.
The declaration of subsidy removal by Tinubu has been condemned by Nigerians with many reminding him of how he masterminded the ‘Occupy Nigeria’ protest in 2012 to protest the removal of subsidy by then president Goodluck Jonathan
“This scenerio easily reminds one of the story of a certain Pharaoh who on assumption of throne empowered his task-masters to tripled the daily tasks of the Jews.
“What a way to announce once emergence as the sheriff in town. President Tinubu’s first executive proclamation was such that it is purposed to inflict pains on Nigerians” the opposition, Labour Party berated the president on the subsidy removal.
