Mrs. Yabawa Lawan Wabi has been appointed by the board of directors of Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc as an independent Non-Executive Director.
Nairametrics reported that the appointment was disclosed in a notice to the Nigerian Exchange Limited
The nomination was approved by the board at its meeting on February 28, 2023, according to a statement that was signed by the company secretary, Mrs. Temitope Hassan.
Wabi’s appointment to the position of Independent Non-Executive Director became effective on March 1, 2023, and it is pending approval by the company’s shareholders at its upcoming Annual General Meeting.
The board stated that it had no doubt that she will bring her extensive experience in finance as well as a high level of objectivity for maintaining shareholder confidence to the board.
With extensive knowledge and experience in the Nigerian Public Sector, Mrs. Wabi is multifaceted and highly accomplished. She has held positions as Accountant General of Borno State, Director of Finance and Accounting at the Ministry of Works and Housing, and Permanent Secretary in a number of Ministries. From 2010 to 2011, she also performed admirably in her role as the Federation’s Minister of Finance.
Mrs. Wabi is a fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. She serves as a non-executive director of the board of Unity Bank Plc, Veritas Kapital Assurance Plc, and Veritas Healthcare Ltd in addition to being a member of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission. She belongs to a number of associations and professional bodies.
