9mobile customers have been complaining about a protracted network outage that is keeping them from being able to make or receive calls.
This follows the statement made over the weekend that the faltering mobile network provider has been acquired by new investor LH Telecommunication Limited, who plans to turn it around, according to Nairametrics.
The customers claim that the network outage, which began on Saturday, lasted until Tuesday and hasn’t been restored as of the time of filing this report.
The situation is exacerbated by the lack of communication from the telecom company to its customers over the issue.
Efforts made to reach the spokesperson of the company were abortive as her line was also not reachable.
A 9Mobile subscriber, Mrs. Tina Ajayi bemoaned her inability to make and receive calls on her line since Saturday.
She said “I have not been able to make or receive calls, neither can I send out messages on my 9mobile line since Saturday. Each time I tried to make a call, the message I get is ‘your phone is not registered on a network, so you can only make emergency calls.
“Initially, I thought my line had been blocked, even though I had linked my NIN a long time ago. I later realized it wasn’t only me when two of my neighbours complained about the same issue on Monday. This is really frustrating.”
Some subscribers of the telco have also taken their grievances to X, where they called out 9mobile over the issue. A 9mobile subscriber, @rchrd_mrtns, wrote:
“It’s high time I port my 9mobile line. The evil is enough. No network for days now. Today not even a single bar.”
Another subscriber, @IzuIgwegbe also lamented via a post that read:
“9mobile has been down since Saturday night till now. No official statement, no message, or email. What sort of anyhowness is this? Only in Nigeria will such a business behave like this. If you’re experiencing the same thing, let’s jointly sue them.”
Due to the frequent outages, a large number of 9mobile users are switching networks. NCC data shows that between January and March, 9,000 customers switched networks, accounting for 6, 443 portouts from 9mobile to other MTN, Airtel, and Globacom networks, or 72% of all subscribers.
