President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are expected to spend a combined total of N9,364,349,417 on local and foreign travels, as well as food and refreshments, in the 2026 fiscal year.
This information is contained in details of the 2026 Appropriation Bill released on Thursday by the Budget Office of the Federation.
President Tinubu presented the 2026 budget estimate, totalling N58.18tn, to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 19, 2025.
While presenting the proposal, the President stated that “national security remained the foundation of economic growth, investment and social stability.”
According to the 2,790-page budget document sighted by The PUNCH, Tinubu earmarked N3.2tn for Defence spending.
The Power sector is allocated N1.1tn in the proposed budget.
The Education sector is to receive a total allocation of N2.3tn.
Further details of the spending plan show that the Federal Government intends to spend N2.1tn on Health and Social Welfare.
Agriculture and Food Security is allocated N1.4tn in the 2026 budget proposal.
The Independent National Electoral Commission is also set to receive N1tn.
According to the budget estimates, President Tinubu will spend a total of N7,014,596,511 on local and international travels during the 2026 fiscal year.
In addition, N431,620,183 has been earmarked for foodstuffs, catering materials, supplies, refreshments and meals for the President.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is projected to spend N1,732,106,437 on local and foreign trips.
The budget also allocates N186,026,286 for foodstuffs, catering materials, supplies, refreshments and meals for the Vice President.
A further breakdown of the proposal shows that President Tinubu is to spend N873,886,689 on local travels.
His foreign trips are expected to cost N6,140,709,822.
Vice President Shettima is expected to spend N417,488,198 on local travels.
A total of N1,314,618,239 has been budgeted for the Vice President’s international trips.
According to the budget document, the President is expected to spend N65.77m on honorarium and sitting allowances.
The sum of N895m has also been earmarked for the purchase of library books and equipment.
The President is expected to procure vehicles valued at N179m.
An allocation of N778.6m has been made for the purchase of office furniture and fittings.
The budget also sets aside N1.342m for the purchase of health and medical equipment for the Presidency.
In addition, a total of N89.504m was budgeted for the ongoing procurement of Sport Utility Vehicles for both the President and the Vice President.
Meanwhile, the Senate on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill for second reading.
The passage has paved the way for detailed legislative scrutiny of the proposed spending plan.
