South Korean authorities are investigating the death of three individuals; a Hyundai contractor and two researchers, found unconscious during a car test in a chamber at Hyundai’s Ulsan plant.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, according to Hyundai’s labour union.
Details about the cause are yet to be disclosed, according to Reuters.
It is reported that the three had suffocated.
Authorities, including the police and labor ministry, are investigating the deaths of three individuals during a car test at Hyundai’s No. 4 factory in Ulsan.
The fire department reported receiving an alert about the incident at 3:17 p.m. on Tuesday
“Hyundai Motor Company is deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at our plant in Ulsan, South Korea,” Hyundai said in a statement, saying it would “cooperate fully with all relevant authorities to determine the cause of this incident.”
Hyundai’s Ulsan plant, its largest manufacturing facility, has an annual production capacity of 1.4 million vehicles, including 1.1 million units for export.
In November 2023, Hyundai began constructing a 2 trillion won ($1.44 billion) plant at the site to produce electric vehicles, marking a significant step in its transition from petrol-powered cars.
