Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini Live, is set to enhance its capabilities by adding support for over 40 languages in the coming weeks.
This generative AI virtual assistant allows users to engage in “free-flowing, natural conversations,” making it suitable for a variety of tasks, such as brainstorming event ideas, exploring new topics, and practicing for job interviews with real-time feedback.
While Google likens the experience to chatting with a friend, the practical use cases may vary among users. The new language feature will enable conversations in two languages simultaneously on the same device, and further language expansions are already in the pipeline. Additionally, Gemini Live will integrate with other Google apps and services, including Google Calendar, Tasks, Keep, and Utilities, enhancing its functionality.
Users can set their preferred languages directly in the Android app by navigating to Settings > Google Assistant > Languages. Here, they can select their primary language and add a secondary option if desired.
Currently, Gemini Live is exclusive to Android devices, with no announcements from Google regarding an iPhone version. This strategy appears aimed at drawing users to its mobile platform.
