The Nigerian Federal Government has intensified efforts to ensure the timely completion of the Eleme Junction to Onne Port Junction section of the East-West Road by December.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during a recent inspection visit to KM 15 Section 3A of the road, managed by RCC Nigeria Ltd.

In a statement released on the Ministry’s official website, Minister Umahi highlighted that President Muhammadu Buhari has directed maximum attention towards the project, emphasizing its critical importance. “The President has mandated that this road receive top priority, which is why he tasked me with this inspection and report. We are targeting December for project completion, but the current pace of work by RCC is not satisfactory,” remarked Umahi.

While acknowledging the quality of work done so far, Minister Umahi urged RCC Nigeria Ltd. to escalate their efforts by simultaneously working on at least six different sections of the road. He cautioned that failure to accelerate progress might necessitate the reassignment of project segments to other contractors.

The statement further indicated that Minister Umahi inspected various other segments of the East-West Road undergoing construction. He underscored the implementation of more robust construction measures aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructural challenges in the South-South region of Nigeria.

This development follows recent criticism by Minister Umahi towards RCC Nigeria Ltd. for alleged delays in the project despite substantial funding. Earlier reports had highlighted concerns over the contractor’s pace, prompting the Minister to issue stern warnings and deadlines to ensure project adherence to timelines and standards.
