The UBA Braille Account Opening Form is a first-of-its-kind effort in the Nigerian and African markets, created exclusively to meet the financial needs of the visually impaired, introduced by the United Bank for Africa.
Vanguard reported that up until now, this special segment of society has suffered, but UBA has now amply proven its unwavering commitment to providing an excellent user experience for all of its customers, regardless of their individual abilities or disabilities, with this trailblazing initiative.
At the UBA Head Office in Lagos, where the new UBA Braille Account Opening Form was introduced, senior bank executives and guests, including Multi-Award Winner, Nigerian Musician, Producer, and Songwriter, Cobhams Asuquo.
Asuquo, who supported the effort, called the Braille account a unique move that shows UBA as a bank with a heart that is keenly aware of the needs of the blind and crippled.
Asuquo stated, “Up until now, when we wanted to do things like establish accounts for ourselves, we were always at the whim of the reader, but this account creation form has arrived to tackle the problem of access which has historically been a major restricting factor for persons like me who are blind.
“With this program, UBA has supported our belief in inclusivity and assisted in reclaiming our freedom while exposing us to the range of possibilities and options available to us.”
“UBA has blazed the trail; I am beyond thrilled. This new effort will send a strong note to others to repeat the accomplishment and let people know that banking services can and should be provided with compassion in mind.”
The Executive Director of Finance and Risk Management at UBA, Ugo Nwaghodoh, stated that the bank is still looking for ways to make people with physical disabilities and others feel at ease in their long-term interactions with the financial sector.
